Period Analysis: Period 8 - The Great Baka Rangers Final Exam Operation (part 2)

Published by qfori under Periods Edit This

First of all, I would like to take a moment to say that this is the 50th post on Negima! LOVE!!!  Isn’t that great!?  Now’s a better time than ever to jump on the Negima! bandwagon by either going and reading it online at Manga Fox, or go and watch the anime (not as good as the manga) at ZOMG Anime .

Anyways, last chapter we left off with the baka rangers, the library exploration club and Negi venturing into library island.  We go into this chapter  with Yue educating the group on interesting facts about Library Island, such as the fact that it’s the biggest in the world.

After getting to the boundry they aren’t supposed to cross as middle schoolers, Negi gets excited about a rare book on a shelf, which sets of a security arrow that goes flying from the shelf.  Thank god for Kaede’s ninja skills that save him from the near fatal incident.

Negi finally realizes what they’re after, and starts telling off Asuna before misunderstanding her as doing a good deed towards him. (pshaw, as if Negi!)   Yue flops out a map that tells them how to get to the magic book and back within four hours.

Everybody is eager to get going, except for Makie, who nearly falls into a trap in the first 10 seconds.  She steps on another trap in the next ten seconds which sets off an avelanch of books, which the baka rangers take care of with barely a flick of the wrist.

Negi falls off of the bookshelves, and after being cought by Asuna, reveals that he is nothing more than a normal little ten year old without any extrordinary athletic ability when he has no magic.  With Negi as a normal, stupid little kid, Asuna takes a more motherly role and starts helping him through obstacles in the library.

They all decide to have a picnic at a rest stop in the middle of the library.  After a bit of mid library pondering, Negi tells Asuna of his suspicions that this library is not normal, and that it in fact as a lot of magical energy around it.

The rest of the group are wondering why Negi and Asuna are whispering, and after Asuna’s hasty excuse, Negi blurts out about how nice she smells before she shoves a sandwich down his throat.

Next they climb over 100 ft high bookshelves, walk through a knee deep lake, scale down the 100 ft bookshelves, and crawl in between 2 floors 2 feet away from each other.  While in the small tunnel, Yue tells them that they are the first from the school to explore this deep, as nobody else can fit into this compact of a space.

They finally reach the magical book, deep within the library.  They all go running to grab the book when the floor disappears and they fall down onto a new platform.  Who’s ready for a lovely game of Twister?    A giant rock monster appears from behind them, scaring the stuff out of them.

Here’s something interesting; Negi says that the voice of the rock monster sounds familiar.  Ku:Nel San was actually supposed to appear in these chapters, but was cut for some reason or another.  I’m wondering if this robot is actually Ku:Nel.

The object of the game is to translate the words the monster gives you from Japanese into English.  Ready?  first word : difficult.  They got that one correct.  2. Cut - correct, etc.  They get to the final question - dish.  the correct answer is osara, but they get it wrong by putting in osaru instead.  They got it wrong, so the monster hit the platform with a giant hammer sending them all to their doom!

Continued in the next period.  (Subscribe if you wanna come see it next time!)

Period Analysis: Period 7 - The Great Baka Rangers Final Exam Operation (part 1)

Published by qfori under Periods Edit This

Hello everybody!  I’m so excited to be on book 2 now!  We’re on period 7, and if you would like to read along, you can go to mangafox so you can read along!

negima volume 2 manga US cover

We start out with an opening page of a beach scene of Ayaka and Shizuna in some pretty skimpy (what else could they be?) swimsuits.

We now see Asuna, Konoka, and Negi running to class when they meet up with Makie and Ako, who somehow thought that yesterday’s dodgeball match was refreshing.  Today Negi picks Makie for translating, which for some reason or other doesn’t make ANYBODY happy.

We jump to the Deans office, where Shizuna is giving a report on Negi’s teaching, which in her opinion is quite good.  While wedging his face between her rather humongous breasts, he decides to make Negi an official teacher stating in April, as long as he can complete some unknown task.

Negi is discussing his classes horrible grades with his students when he spots a pot of flowers, which for some reason really motivates him!  While Negi is plotting a devious plan to snatch up the flowers with magic, Shizuna comes along and hands Negi a piece of paper which turns out to be Negi’s final task - making sure class 2-A doesn’t score last for the final exams.

In his next lesson, Negi starts motivating the class to study harder so that they score well on the exams.  Mei pops in with a great study idea; taking all their clothes off!  The rules are, if you miss an English question, you must remove one article of clothing.  Negi happily agrees to this contest (misunderstanding what it actually is), and the games begin.  Asuna and Makie are losing worst, eventually only wearing their bottom underwear. (Oh, Akamatsu, how you love to draw 13 year olds naked.)  And the loser is…  ASUNA!  Who would’ve guessed.

Negi realizes what’s actually going on, but for some reason or another, doesn’t seem to care much.  He’s only worried about losing his job, the selfish prat.  Once again, Negi the dumb-ass tries to solve everything with magic before asuna comes and tells him how stupid he’s being.  She shows him her improving test scores, and tells him that he’s only teaching “halfheartedly”, which really strikes a nerve.

He decides that his magic is only going to lead him to do dishonest things, therefore puts a block on all of his powers for three whole days, until the exams are over.  He winds up with three bands on his arm, each representing a day.  As each day passes, one band disappears.

Hmmm, dejavu!  Weren’t we just in this same bath scene LAST VOLUME!?!?  Konoka comes in with big (inaccurate) news.  Whichever class scores lowest in the exams will be broken up and possibly held back a grade.  The dummy force is going into hysterics when Yue gives them a solution; to go and get the book of wisdom from deep within library island!  According to Yue, whoever reads the book gets really smart.  Nobody in the class is really up for it, except Asuna, who ends up dragging the dummy force, the library expedition club, and Negi with her to library island.

While searching for the secret entrance, Negi reveals that he no longer has access to any of his powers.  Asuna is not happy.

Well, that about wraps it up for period 7, so come back on  Wednesday for part two!  You can always just subscribe to my posts on the left hand side of the page.  Thanks!

Period Analysis: Period 6 - Dodgeball Showdown! Fight on, Girls!(part 2)

Published by qfori under Periods Edit This

Yay!  I’m so excited!  We’ve finally finished with volume one of Mahou Sensei Negima!  If you missed the first volume, you can go read it free online at onemanga .

We start out at the scene of the dodgeball showdown.  The score - 2-A 22, 2-D 10.  Asuna is getting really pumped. Then they all figure out that the other team wasn’ being serious.  What a bummer.  2-A starts losing horribly once the other team starts trying.

Asuna goes into an explanation that doesn’t make any sense.  She thinks that having more people on a dodgeball team is actually a disadvantage.  Silly Asuna!

They next go after Nodoka, who luckily is saved by Asuna.  The elders then reveal their true identities, the Mahora Dodgeball Club!  They even have kewel uniforms.  They call themselves… (dun dun duuuuuuun!)  The Kuroyuri (Black Lily Flowers)!!!

This doesn’t dampen Ayaka’s spirits though!  She remains confident and in turn gets hit.  Poor ayaka! Cry  Everyone is baffled by the triange attack, and a handful more people get out (2-A students of course).  The score is now 2-A 11, 2-D 10.

Their next target is naturally Asuna, who gets hit with the Solar Strike… twice!  Stupid Negi decides that now would be a good time to blow everyone’s shirts up before Asuna straightens him out.

Everyone nearly gives up when Negi gives them a motivating pep talk that even makes Asuna proud!  The other team starts blabbing to long, and thanks to Nodoka who has memorized the “dodgeball Handbook” from cover to cover, the other team is required to hand over the ball.

Akira manages to finally get somebody out after getting the ball.  Whoa, now everybody decides that they’re awesome at dodgeball and uses their own personal strengths to their advantage.  Ako uses a soccer move, Yuna uses a basketball dunk, and Makie unravels the ball and uses a really crazy gymnastics move!

YAY!  2-A wins the match, but not without bitter feelings.  The leader of 2-D throws the ball at Asuna, making it only fair that Negi rips all of her AND her friends clothes off in a completely OBVIOUS display of magic! Undecided

The chapter ends with 2-A celebrating, and Negi being consulted about joining 2-D’s dodgeball team (albeit he didn’t do anything)!

Period Analysis: Period 5 - Dodgeball Showdown!! Fight on Girls (part one)

Published by qfori under Periods Edit This

Well, it’s time to analyze Negima! Period 5: Dodgeball showdown!! Fight on Girls (Part One).  Jeeze, what a mouthfull!  If you want you can go read this (and all the previous) chapters at One Manga .

The chapter starts out with some girls from class 2-A gossiping about whether Negi is a good choice for a teacher, when they are accosted by their upperclassmen.  They run to get help from Negi (because a wimpy little ten year old will DEFINITELY be able to settle it).  The 16 year old girls decide that he’s too cute to settle anything, and start a rousing game of “let’s touch the 10 year old”.

Luckily, Asuna and Ayaka come to save the day.  Even MORE luckily, Takamichi comes to save the day. Oop!  11 pages in and still no echi?  We’d better throw in a changing scene!  They all discuss how pathetic Negi is before going to their PE class which happens to be Volleyball today.

By some crazy circumstance, the seniors are there, with Negi filling in for their PE teacher. They all nearly break out in a fight when Negi decides that a good solution would be to sneeze all their skirts up.  Oddly enough, none of the girls even notice… how mysterious. Undecided

Since Negi’s first idea wasn’t so hot (no pun intended), he figures a better solution would be to have a dodgeball match to see who get’s to use the court… and Negi Sensei.  Wow, another competition to see who gets the sensei.  The girls of 2-A agree under the condition that they get to use 23 people, and 2-D only get’s 11.

How will it all end!?  Who will take home the Sensei!?  You can only find out bysubscribing to my feed on the right hand side of the page, and reading the next Period Analysis when it comes out on Saturday! (Or just by reading ahead, but that’s cheating! Wink)
