Negima! Period Analysis: Period 1
Well, I finally brushed the dust off of my Negima! volume 1 today. I would brush off the cat pee too, but I can’t seem to find a way to do that (stupid cat!). Well, it’s time to pull on my extra heavy duty rubber gloves and get to analyzing this.
Wow, this seems like it’s drawn by some totally different person. Everything just seems, well, more detailed sort of, for lack of a better term.
Alright, well it all starts with Negi’s graduation, and everybody is upset that he has to go to Japan except Negi, who seems totally thrilled about it. On the next page, you see a huge picture with all of the schoolgirls and Negi which may be familiar to you if you visit this blog frequently (the banner on the top of the page:-)). After that, you slide into the entirely different, less detailed, crappier than what is drawn now world of Japan. Turn the page and what do we find? Negi runs into a woman’s boobs, triggering a sneeze that blows up all the girls skirts. Aw Negi, you little perv. A couple of pages later, the focus turns to Asuna and Konoka. Here we get to see our first glimpse of Asuna’s crazy obsession with Takahata-sensei. Her exact words are:
TAKAHATA SENSEI! TAKAHATA SENSEI! TAKAHATA SENSEI! TAKAHATA SENSEI! TAKAHATA SENSEI! ARF!
Asuna then meet’s Negi, bullies him for a bit, then threatens him with his life after she finds out that he took her precious Takahata-Sensei’s position as the class’s English teacher. Then Negi sneezes Asuna’s clothes off, gets offered Konoka as a girlfriend, and squishes his face into the school nurse’s boobs. Negi is arranged to bunk with Asuna and Konoka, then gets to meet his class.
Ah! Our first display of magic! Negi makes an erasor float in midair… without incantating anything, or even holding his wand. Hmmmmm. After being attacked by his boy crazy class, Asuna confronts him by slamming him around a little more. Luckily Ayaka comes to the rescue, and Negi tries to teach the class… unsuccessfully. Asuna tries to get him to do more magic by flinging eraser chunks at him. Then the class ends with a nice little rumble between Asuna and Ayaka. Negi thinks that the major event of the day is over, but of course, he’s wrong. He catches Konoka from a fall, right in front of Asuna, who has a major spaz fest. Of course, the only solution for somebody seeing you using magic is to tear all of their clothes off, so that is what negi decides to do, under the supervision of another teacher of course.
After Asuna forces some answers out of Negi, they go to his surprise party. There, Asuna ropes him into reading Takahata’s mind to see what his true feelings about Asuna are. After giving unsatisfactory results, she runs away crying. Negi talks to her, and she makes him pretend to be Takahata. She nearly kisses him, but actually just pinches his cheeks. She then starts screaming at him again before going to bed and having a wierd love potion dram about her crush.
Sorry if that kind of droned on, any suggestions on how to make this better would be deeply appreciated! I hadn’t realized until now how freaking long these take to do, so I may have to shorten them down to one a week. This is a really long chapter though, so I’m not entirely positive what i’ll do.
